How long would it take to save a certain amount?

Your goal, what you can save and how often — and the date you get there.

Only labels the amounts — nothing is converted.
Assumptions you can change
Interest or investment return you assume each year. Leave it at 0 for cash savings.
You would reach your goal in 50 months
That is about
4.2 years
Goal reached around
2 December 2030
You put in
$10,000

Assumptions behind this result

  • You save $200 every month, starting today, added at the end of each month.
  • No interest or investment growth.
  • Inflation, taxes and fees are not taken into account.

A goal feels closer with a date on it. Enter what you want to reach, what you have already, and what you can put aside — the result is the number of payments and roughly when the last one lands.

How it is worked out

Starting from what you have already saved, each period your balance grows by the period's share of the yearly rate and then your saving is added — period after period until the balance reaches the goal.

The date assumes you start today and save on the same day of each period. If the goal is not reached within 100 years, the page says so rather than giving a date.
