What if I walk 5,000 steps every day?
Your daily steps added up — and roughly how far they would take you.
In total, about
1,826,250 steps
- Active days
- 365
- That is about this many kilometres
- 1,405
- Steps a week
- 35,000
Assumptions behind this result
- 5,000 steps a day, 7 days a week, for 1 year.
- A year is counted as 365.25 days, so leap years are included.
- 1,300 steps per one of the kilometres — change it to match yours.
Daily steps vanish into the day. Added up over a year they become a distance you can picture. Set your own steps, and your own stride for the conversion to kilometres.
How it is worked out
Active days are the number of days in the period that you actually do it: years × 365.25 × days a week ÷ 7. The total is your daily amount multiplied by the active days.
The total is then divided by the figure you set for one of the kilometres. It is an assumption you can change, so the result is only as exact as that figure.
